The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
First topic message reminder :
DAelorios Island -- Located in the Valoras Sea at a distance from the mainland that the former EarthWing territory is from the NightWing territory. It has been forgotten by the tribes, only a myth now. It is said to have been the place where Dragons first appeared after the world's creation. Known as the ElderWings, these Dragons resembled in appearance all of the Dragons seen today. When overcrowding threatened them, they migrated to the mainland which was much larger. Overtime they would evolve into the seven species seen today and eventually form tribes. The ElderWings left the island deserted, nothing but simple prey animals remaining... Or so it was thought.
________________________________________________________________________
//As mentioned above, this is an island that as been lost to time. So maybe your character heard a myth about it from their tribe's Scholar who discovered some vague writing about it. Or maybe you saw Baldirak heading out across the ocean and decided to follow him. Whatever your reason to going to the island, once there, you'll eventually encounter an NPC ElderWing--played by yours truly. And then you'll be led to the ElderWing's city. For more info on the ElderWing's history, read The History of Daelorios Island.//
Baldirak had ventured to the northernmost edge of the old EarthWing territory. When this place still belonged to his tribe, he would come here to gaze at the ocean. He sat now doing that very thing, inhaling the wonderfully salty air as waves rolled and crashed against the coast. In his youth, Baldirak had traveled across Pyrria, seeing as much as he could. He'd visited most of the small islands in the Crystal Sea and seen some islands elsewhere that he hadn't visited. One such island was just in front of him, though a good distance away. At the moment, Baldirak had absolutely nothing to do; his fellow EarthWings didn't require his services. So why couldn't visit that island for a little while? The more he sat there thinking about it, the more tempting it seemed. Opening his wings as he stood, Baldirak stepped off the cliff into a short dive before ascending to the sky. He smiled lightly as the cool ocean breeze hit him and the sun warmed his back. It was such a pleasant day. For about ten minutes, there was nothing to gaze upon but the ocean and the sky, neither of which had anything interesting in them. There were a few clouds dotting the robin egg blue sky. Some were thin wispy things that might fade to non-existence if the winds suddenly decided to change direction. Others were thick fluffy mounds of rabbit fur that cast shadows on the ground and covered the sun. But soon the EarthWing was able to see the coast of the island on the horizon. The coast was composed of rocks rather than sand, yet was still nice to look at. From his place in the sky, Baldirak could see that the island was covered in trees, the only noticeable clearing being a large lake at the center. But rather than going there, Baldirak landed on the rocky shore. He would work his way to the center of the island.

Well, i don't want to brag, but i make all my gear myself... except the forging... That is way too bothersome... It's not like a dial is that hard to make though... You just take a stick and fix it to a disk...

"This will be a bit more complicated than that, I'm afraid. But not too difficult, I assure you. First, we need the disk; it will be fairly large as the stones are sizeable. Here are the measurements.." Bain provided Torg with a scroll. On it were the aforementioned measurements and a diagram of the dial. The disk was meant to hold stones the size of Velociraptor eggs.
Jade took to the air as they left the ruins and made her way towards the lake. "I there are things even we don't know about..." she commented as she wondered about the gem she carried in her left paw.

Lily glided silently next to the elder taking in the scenery below her. "So who's Sirius?" She finally asked, breaking the short silence.

((That is a rather...unique unit of measurement... Especially since the last of said eggs were laid about 65 million years ago... just how old are you that you still use them as a valid unit?!))
Uhm....Queue construction montage?
What are these stones anyway?

Re: The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
Despite the sense of urgency and the somewhat ominus feeling in the air, Jade smiled. She enjoyed flying more than anything, and it was such a nice night. She answered Lily as she made loops in the air, "Siris is our leader. He is also the Keeper of Days... That's just a fancy way of saying he knows the entire history of Dragonkind. It's something that comes with having leader as your Birth Title. I'm glad it's not mine; I don't care for history. I prefer the present. Anyway, if Siris doesn't know what this is, then maybe Mae might. She's the Scribe, so she might have even written about it. "
((I'm 75 million years old, obviously. I just don't look it cause I get reincarnated every 100 years and on occasion use anti-wrinkle cream.))
While the construction montage went on, Bain engaged in one of his own, as he created the dial To go stop the disk. Unfortunately, he couldn't see Torg's handiwork, but he could feel it. He smiled as he ran a paw over the completed work. "You are indeed very skilled. These stones absorb light quite well (but they're not Moonstones). Well, not exactly. They do absorb light, but they emit heat upon doing so. Strangely, each stone absorbs a different amount, thus affecting the amount of heat produced. I also discovered that each only absorbs light during a particular phase of the moon, but all take in sunlight equally. Most peculiar... So I decided this moon dial would be perfect for blind Dragons--and even normal sighted ones--to travel at night. How so? Well, I'll need to come up with a simple way to explain it."

Lily smiled as she saw Jade enjoying herself in a childlike manner "Oh, I'm a bit nervous to meet him now." she chuckled nervously. To clam herself she climbed a warm air channel to bring her higher and waited a moment before making a nose dive to the ground before pulling up and heading skyward just feet above the ground

((Okay, at this point im fairly certain that i should ask IC about bain's voice changes...))

(Thats an IC reaction, BTW)
.....Okay,lets start dissecting that... lets disregard the heat emission for now, as hat is just an interface between user and tool for our purposes. So you can basically tell with that which part of the month it is. I don't see how it can be used for travel other than that though. But wait, there's more! If the absorb light and emit it as heat, why not just use it as a heat source?

Jade chuckled. "Don't worry, it'll be fine."Soon enough, they were over the lake, the palace where Siris, Durval, Reya, and Bassasail stood just a few more wing flaps away. Jade landed outside and walked up to the three other ElderWings, greeting each in turn with a law to their shoulder. And then she introduced Lily to them. "Guys, this is Lily. Lily, this is Durval, Reya, and Siris."
Durval smiled at the NightWing. "Greetings, Lily! Durval's me name, ha-ha. Pleasure to meet you!"
Reya giggled at Durval. How he managed to stay so jolly all the time was still a mystery to her. "Pretty sure she caught your name the first time, Dur. Hi, Lily, nice to meet you. "
Siris would have smiled at his two friends if not for the troublesome situation brewing. He looked at the female NightWing. "Greetings, Lily. It is an honor to meet yet another Successor."
((His voice isn't changing.. I'm on a tablet and the tiny color boxes don't like thumbs ;-; ))
Bain considered this for a minute or two. " Its use as a heat source would only be reliable during certain phases. We could configure the dial to turn according to the moon's position in the sky... Perhaps travel would not be a practical use for it, but it shall certainly have other uses."

"Now, we place the stones in order according to the lunar phase they represent. After that, I will use a spell that will imbue them with the ability to use one's mind as a compass. That is, all one would have to do is think about where they wish to go, if they are unsure of their present location, and the stones will guide the way. Perhaps this is where the stones' heat-absorbing properties could be of use." As Bain spoke, he ran a paw over each of the six stones, trying to find the tiny scratches he placed to tell each one apart.

Baldirak Sapiens Draco wrote:Durval and Reya were about to lead the way through the portal. But the NightWing, Sinful suddenly erupted from the earth to hover above the canopy. At the same instance, Siris stepped through the portal behind the trio on the ground. "It would seem that I have found you. What insight can you provide to this situation, Mainlander?"
((Sorry for the really late reply))
Bassasail looked to Siris, he seemed a bit distressed about what was going on altogether, Bassasail had not been this stressed and worried at the same time, "The situation is that thing," He would say pointing to the black dragon who seemed to be ready attack at something, "Is it possible to get others to safety?"

Siris lifted his gaze to the NightWing in the sky, eyes narrowing. "Such precautions are already being taken. It would seem that Dragon wishes a battle... We as a whole have lost all stomach for bloodshed, but there are a few whom I trained for battle. Durval, if you would assemble them... Bassasail, what can you tell of that NightWing on high? Any advantage we can have will help."
Without a word, Durval went through the portal to gather the aforementioned few Siris spoke of. Meanwhile, Baldirak, and the ElderWings who were showing him around, wondered about the rumblings in the earth a few minutes ago. Well, the ElderWings wondered; Baldirak, thanks to his abilities as an EarthWing, could see what moved below ground. He saw the NightWing--a silhouette. And then came two bulky, Guardian-esque ElderWings who asked that everyone make their way to the furthest caves in the system. However, out of curiosity, Baldirak slipped away to return to the surface.

"Of all of the years I have battled him, the only weakness I found was his arrogance and his hunger for power. Take precaution, he is not to be taken lightly at all cost, he's an opportunistic sadist and tyrant." Is what Bassasail said, still looking at the dragon. Of all years they had fought, Bassasail only defeated Shizarou through luck and the opposing dragons own arrogance, that was it, nothing more.

Shizarou finished charging his attack, and firing off a small, compressed beam of darkness across the forest it seemed as if nothing had happened, but seconds later the parts where he shot the beam exploded violently, catching the forest in red and black fire. He charged yet another beam, and firing it off at another section of the forest, catching the forest ablaze.

((Im back to this))
Guryon looked at Cinulith. He was slightly confused and had no idea what thew two were talking about. He stepped forward and glared at the two. "Who's Ilos?" Guryon demanded. ((Suck up this short post))Baldirak wrote:Cinulith frowned and put the fish away. "Well that's no reason not to eat them, but okay." He blinked then when he realized what Guryon said about being a god but not a full one. "What? Hey,Vona, wasn't Ilos a uh... Oh, what's the word...?"

Cinulith looked at Vona again before trying to explain. "Oh, what's that word? We didn't know 'bout it til our kin visited from the mainland... Uh.. Oh! I know what it is! Semi-god. Ilos was the first semi-god, but we didn't know it back when he was alive. He was also our first leader--that mean he was in charge. He's dead now, of course. But I bet he would have loved to meet another, uh, divine," he said, suddenly forgetting nthe term 'semi-god' already.
((Why you gotta destroy my island, Shiza? ;-; ))
Siris took in this information with a quiet hissing. His feathered wings ruffled a bit with a small wind. "Perhaps I can distract with something that targets those, but he must have some physical weakness, surely. Do you not know of it?" As Siris questioned him, Lily looked around, suddenly fearful. Reya worried about her Hatchling but kept herself composed. She looked at the NightWing in the sky, wondering how he might be defeated. Durval, in the meantime, returned with the few warriors the ElderWings possessed. A mere six, of which Odaer the Scroll Keeper was one.
"We're all accounted for, Ilos. What is our plan o' attack?" the GateKeeper now asked in an uncharacteristically serious tone.

Bassasail thought for a moment, growling at this sight, "There are two very small soft spot, hit him and you will knock the wind out of for seconds, and that should give you some momentum for that time being until he catches gain," Bassasail said looking to Siris, but then saw six of the fighters that were going to go against Shizarou, "If you are pieced by any of his scales then you will be attacked by a fast acting poison formed of the black magic in him, and he may be slower on ground, but that tail, its much faster then he, it is like a giant diamond blade, so you will need to be careful of that."

Shizarou calmed down after a few more blasts, taking in a deep breath and exhaling. There is no need to waste any energy.... there was a city nearby, was there not? He would grin wickedly as he took off at a fast pace charging up a powerful beam to lay waste to those in the city. There is no fun in destroying a forest, he wanted the screams and suffering of a city though, he imagined the casualties, no matter how small the population, he wanted death. As he flew, the ball of purple darkness glowed brighter and brighter, smoke and the such escaping through his teeth as he flew towards the city...

((Yes, I'm just terrible at explaining things. So forget that and lets just go with using it as a heat source.))
Bain was silent for quite some time. He seemed unable to properly explain to the EarthWing just what he was envisioning, how it was to function. With a silent sigh, he replied, "Let us forget that for now. Instead, why don't we focus on it being a heat source. Perhaps we can make it strong enough to heat whole dens."
