The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
First topic message reminder :
DAelorios Island -- Located in the Valoras Sea at a distance from the mainland that the former EarthWing territory is from the NightWing territory. It has been forgotten by the tribes, only a myth now. It is said to have been the place where Dragons first appeared after the world's creation. Known as the ElderWings, these Dragons resembled in appearance all of the Dragons seen today. When overcrowding threatened them, they migrated to the mainland which was much larger. Overtime they would evolve into the seven species seen today and eventually form tribes. The ElderWings left the island deserted, nothing but simple prey animals remaining... Or so it was thought.
________________________________________________________________________
//As mentioned above, this is an island that as been lost to time. So maybe your character heard a myth about it from their tribe's Scholar who discovered some vague writing about it. Or maybe you saw Baldirak heading out across the ocean and decided to follow him. Whatever your reason to going to the island, once there, you'll eventually encounter an NPC ElderWing--played by yours truly. And then you'll be led to the ElderWing's city. For more info on the ElderWing's history, read The History of Daelorios Island.//
Baldirak had ventured to the northernmost edge of the old EarthWing territory. When this place still belonged to his tribe, he would come here to gaze at the ocean. He sat now doing that very thing, inhaling the wonderfully salty air as waves rolled and crashed against the coast. In his youth, Baldirak had traveled across Pyrria, seeing as much as he could. He'd visited most of the small islands in the Crystal Sea and seen some islands elsewhere that he hadn't visited. One such island was just in front of him, though a good distance away. At the moment, Baldirak had absolutely nothing to do; his fellow EarthWings didn't require his services. So why couldn't visit that island for a little while? The more he sat there thinking about it, the more tempting it seemed. Opening his wings as he stood, Baldirak stepped off the cliff into a short dive before ascending to the sky. He smiled lightly as the cool ocean breeze hit him and the sun warmed his back. It was such a pleasant day. For about ten minutes, there was nothing to gaze upon but the ocean and the sky, neither of which had anything interesting in them. There were a few clouds dotting the robin egg blue sky. Some were thin wispy things that might fade to non-existence if the winds suddenly decided to change direction. Others were thick fluffy mounds of rabbit fur that cast shadows on the ground and covered the sun. But soon the EarthWing was able to see the coast of the island on the horizon. The coast was composed of rocks rather than sand, yet was still nice to look at. From his place in the sky, Baldirak could see that the island was covered in trees, the only noticeable clearing being a large lake at the center. But rather than going there, Baldirak landed on the rocky shore. He would work his way to the center of the island.

"You're studying to be a Healer? Oh, well you'll want to see Laia, then. And we've got plenty of salmon... Unless I eat them all." Ullie laughed and flew over to the ruins of a house nearby. Beneath the rotting floorboards was a hole leading into a tunnel system. Ullie waited for Crystal to catch up, then went in. She landed in the tunnel and used a spell to cast a light ball to illuminate the tunnel so Crystal could see. "So, what's it like on the mainland?" Ullie asked curiously.

"What in the name of Ilos is going on here?" The Scroll Keeper, Odaer, had been in the middle of restoring an old scroll when he heard a great deal of noise in what should have been a silent library. He was at the back of it, seated beside a neat pile of scrolls which required restoration. But now he followed the sounds to find an intruder lying on the ground. Odaer was abnormally large for an ElderWing. He was a good 5ft taller than what his species could normally become. It was thought at one time that it may run in his bloodline, but that was proven untrue. The next logical thinking was he might be a dormant semi-god. He thought it unlikely, but then again, the great Ilos had been one, and all his life he had no idea. In addition to being a "giant" among his kind, Odaer had a very long and slender, yet sturdy, claw on his left forepaw. This, was in fact, a family trait. His paws were webbed, his tail ended in a spade that opened to grab or cut. Two large horns sat atop his head. He lacked any feathers, but he was a fast flyer. His scales were pale blue with splotches of orange on his face and legs. His build was on the thin side, but thanks to plated scales on his chest, it wasn't too noticeable... from the front. Odaer stared at this intruder with yellow eyes and growled slightly. The Scroll Keeper was far from hostile, but this Dragon didn't need to know that. "Who are you and what are you doing here? And be quick about your answer or I'll eat you!"

Crystal laughed at Ullie. "I doubt you'l eat them all before i do. And dont worry, i'll leave you a crumb or two." She joked back. When Ullie took off, Crystal yelped. "Wait up!!!" She said, jumping into the air after her. She spotted Ullie land and landed by her, kicking up a bit of dust. She watched as Ullie lit up the room. "Woah.. You know, you didnt have to do that. I have nightvision.. and the mainland? Some of its chaos, others... its ok. But if you ever travel there, DO NOT go to the NightWings. They'll probably kill ya with a blink of an eye." Crystal sighed. "Its a shame the NightWings became so hostile. They were so nice before."

Suprised by the sudden encounter, Torghaith stiffened for a few heartbeats as he looked for the source of the voice. Locating it, and realising that it belonged to someone who is more than likely a local, his first thought was along the lines of "this didnt take long...", mentally preparing himself for incoming angry denizens of whatever place he stumbled into. But, this was one of those possibilities he prepared for in advance. Specifically, the plan of action for such a situation was to play it cool. And so he did... Theoretically...
That would be most unwise, my arguably cannibalistic friend. The last one to try and take a bite out of me, departed for the eternal hunting grounds before the sun set, foamy saliva trickling from his jaws.
And so, as he was practically beaming confidence(pretend confidence, but confidence nonetheless!), yet another wild story took wing(ba dum tss) about him, this time spiced with a bit of poison for good measure.

Odaer snorted and walked past the dragon to pick up some scrolls that had fallen. "Well, I can assure you, it wouldn't be me going to that shining place of the gods. Look at this mess! Took me hours to arrange these scrolls... Now what are you doing in my library? All this talk of supposedly killing some Dragon and you haven't even answered my question." The Scroll Keeper muttered as he went about putting the fallen artifacts back in their proper places.

"Aww, but I never get to show off my magic!" Ullie laughed and pretended to be upset. "So, the NightWings are hostile? How come? And I don't think I'd ever go to the mainland. Sirius says it's not safe. Or, at least, not right now." Ullie stopped when they came to a dead end.She lifted her paw and pressed it against the wall. There was a light blue glow that traveled from where her paw rested to the rest of the wall. And then, just a moment later, it disappeared and the wall rumbled as it lifted. Behind it was another tunnel, at the end of which was a cave filled with dens and a pool, vegetation hanging from the ceiling. "That's part of our city. There's three other caves and the main one is past this one," the young ElderWing explained as she led Crystal down the tunnel.

Re: The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
Getting out of the librarian's way, he spoke once more.
Ah, yes, that part. You see, i came across this scroll a little while ago, and it piqued my interest. Presents scroll. After realizing that it was of... unclear origin, I started trying to match it to some place i may have visited before, and things along those lines, but I couldn't find out where it came from and nobody had any convincing theories, so i started studying it more in depth. Eventually, i found a path laid out by it, presumably to its place of origin, so i ended up embarking on an excursion to discover new....things... maybe? Actually, i don't even know what i expected to find...apart from trouble... I am masterful at finding trouble. Â Anyway i started following the path it laid out, and ended up in this place. Have to give it to you though, you caught me quickly indeed.
Meanwhile, studying the scroll, Odaer realizes two important details.
One: It was indeed from this library, although it is rather ancient.
And Two: It is a recipe for making finely roasted deer for four.

((Lol, interesting find, there))
Odaer took the scroll from the dragon and looked at it. He laughed then. "Ancient though it may be, this is not from my library. Only historical records are kept here. This is from someone's personal collection. Perhaps it belonged to a cook.. And of course I caught you quickly, you weren't exactly stealthy. So, you are a seeker of trouble, eh? Ha, I was once, when I was a wee Hatchling. Have you got a name, then?" Odaer handed the scroll back to the intruder and sat, looking at him.

Strange... I am fairly certain it was kept somewhere close by. In any case, I am Torghaith, of the Earthwing. Now, if I might be so bold as to ask a question of my own, where is "here"...?
He tries looking around, but libraries rarely contain landmarks useful for figuring out one's location in the world.

"Torghaith. Nice to meet you, even if you did make a mess of things. I'm Odaer, the Scroll Keeper. And 'here' is the island Daelorios, home of we ElderWings, your ancestors. I believe I have Scroll or two on you EarthWings, but we'll get to that later, if you're interested. Right now, it's almost time for the feast... You might as well come along, you'll be hungry by the time we get there." The ElderWing stood and started walking toward the front of the library

He fell in behind the scroll keeper and started following him, eyes darting this way and that in search of things of interest... And threats. Paranoia is half health already, as they say... The other half being either laziness, or cleanness. Either way, that adds up to a wholly healthy Torghaith.
Can't say in good conscience that i have ever heard of this island or the elderwings, i must say. And why will i be hungry by the time we get there?

Re: The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
Jakarn followed the hatchling and showed no sign of discontent when one of them climbed on his back. Once they stopped in the statue room he looked around and fidgeted a little. "That's a nice statue you've got there." Jakarn didn't know what else to say as he had little clue about the significance of the statues. Ooo a scroll keeper; he might have some interesting stuff, hope he's not too pretentious or anything. I know those scroll keeper types can be.

"Heh. The NightWings werent hostile before a dragon named Oculus became their leader. He made his tribe, or as i would call them slaves, build a humongous wall and labyrinth. I heard he treated his tribe like dirt. The wall is so high, the air pressure makes your ears hurt when you try to fly above it. I cant really visit my Aunt anymore... But you may actually have some realitives on the mainland Ullie." Crystal told her on the way.
Crystal huffed as they reached the end. "Why di-" She was cut off but Ullie putting her paw on the wall, and making it rise. "Woah... First of all, i never asked you where we were. Second of all, where is this exact place."

Ullie was surprised to hear about the NightWings. "Wow, that sounds terrible. I can't believe someone would do that to their own kind. Sure I have relatives on the island. All you mainlanders are our descendants. And this place here? Um, I'm sure exactly where it is. I'm not that great at locations underground." She led Crystal through the cave to the next one, which was considerably larger. (See page 3 for description) Ullie smiled and loss at Crystal. "This is Ilos City. Well, technically New Ilos but.. So, let's go eat all the salmon! Durval will hate that cause he loves salmon, hehe." Ullie went into the air again and flew across the city to the palace. But she went slow so Crystal had a chance to see everything.

Odaer laughed. "Because I can hear your innards talking already. You just can't feel it yourself, yet. It doesn't surprise me you haven't heard of this place. Some of our kin migrated to the mainland--hence your exsitence--and eventually, our ties with them were severed. They just stopped coming to visit. The nerve of some Dragons! Anyway, we figured they forgot about us and our leader at the time said we should just let them alone. Â So we did." Odaer stopped in front of huge oak doors and nudged it open with his paw. He could hear voices coming from the statue room in the distance and recognized one. 'Ah, Henri and Nyetai are here,' he thought. He looked back at Torghaith and continued on. "You could leave that bag somewhere. No one's going to bother it."

Henri looked up at Jakarn. "We can go if you'd like, Nyetai will be in here for at least an hour."Nyetai heard him and was about to protest when she heard a familiar voice nearby. "Hey, Odaer's here! Hi Odaer!" The Hatchling jumped off of Jakarn's back and ran out of the room, going down the hall to where the Scroll Keeper was, apparently having run into another mainlander, himself. Henri smiled and pawed at Jakarn  before running off, too. "Come on, Jakarn! The Scroll Keeper is here!"Nyetai had already jumped onto the Scroll Keepers back to hug him. "Hi, Odaer! How are you? Got any interesting scrolls for our new friend to look at? Who's this behind you, is he a mainlander, too?"

He shook the bags on his back saying They are part of the image, you know. Do i perhaps not strike you as a daring adventurer with them on...? as he struck a dashing(metaphorically) pose. In that second, Odaer gets assaulted by Nyetai. Torghaith, still in his epic pose, decides to make an impression on the dragonling as she asks her question.
I am the mighty Torghaith, the Conqueror! I came here to subjugate this land and annex it into my empire. Bow down before me, child! All this in an extremely theatrical and dramatic manner. This would have been quite a bit more impressive if he actually had wings to spread out dramatically aat this point, but we can't have all the good things, now can we?

Re: The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
Now Baldirak found himself in a record hall--or what had once been a record hall. The roof of this room had caved in, filling most of it worth Rock and other debris. But a small portion at the front of the room remained unscathed. There were a few shelves, and on them, a few scrolls. Most of the scrolls would crumble into a pile of dust, but one remained intact. Baldirak delicately unfurled the parchment then lowered his head to read it. Luckily, the few words that could be made out were in a tongue he understood. A low growl rumbled in his throat as he tried to make sense of what the scroll might speak of as a whole. "...The sor-sorcerer hides here." He put the scroll back on the shelve and looked around. There was nothing left to see except burnt pieces of parchment. The king left room, still puzzling over the scroll. Perhaps it had been a story. He blinked as light suddenly filled his eyes. There was a hole in the ceiling. He decided to go in that direction, which led down a corridor. At the end of it, there was a large hole in the ground. Baldirak thought it to be a tunnel, but further inspection revealed a faint but unmistakable stench; one of death. Long rotted-away corpses lay at the bottom of the chasm. The Dragon's gaze couldn't penetrate the darkness, but bodies long forgotten still held poses of fear. From their look, if one could see them, these unfortunate souls had been tossed alive down into this pit. The floor had a number of wooden stakes protruding from it. With another growl, Baldirak lifted his head. There was no room for fly within the corridor and the pit was just great enough in diameter that couldn't step around it. So, much to the dismay of his right foreleg, Baldirak jumped over the pit. With a loud hiss after his right forepaw came into harsh contact with the ground, the king sat for a moment to let the limb recover. And then he stood and continued on to what he figured would be the end of the castle--at least of the wing he was in.

"Durval? Interesting name. Although Ullie is too, so.. Anyway, this place is beautiful. I want to visit so many things, but... I dont have the time. I have to tend to idiots who dont know how to protect themselves in fights. Im ok with hatchlings though, they're cute." Crystal smiled. "I wish you could come back with me. The Scholars all over the mainland would want to know about you guys. And maybe if you come back and my mentor saw you, they would appreciate me more..... Oh my.. Im sorry, i was beginning to ramble on about stu-"

Odaer turned his head to look at Torghaith and laughed. "An adventurer? No, you strike me as a pack mule. Maybe--Haha, hello there, Nyetai! How are you?"The Scroll Keeper smiled when he heard the Hatchling and she jumped on his back. And then he heard Henri as well and turned to see him. "And Henri too? Well, what a nice surprise. Always happy to see my favorite Scribeil. Now what's this I hear about a new friend? You mean there's more of these mainlanders?"
Nyetai looked at Torghaith and tilited her head, then laughed. "You're funny! My name's Nyetai. And that's Henri," she said with a flick of her tail toward her fdiend. Henri, meanwhile, was much too excited to see Odaer to worry about introducing himself. "Nice too see you, too, Odaer. And yeah, there is another one. His name is Jakarn, he should coming any second now. Are you on your way to the feast? We could all go together! "

Ullie smiled. " Yeah, this place is pretty neat. I love just flying around up here. I don't know if I would be allowed to go to the mainland, though... Siris said we may go there again one day or even allow you mainlanders to visit regularly. But I don't know when. Hey, maybe we can ask him if I can go back with you for a day or two!" She dove down to where Durval stood and hit his face with her tail as she went by. Then she landed in front of the gleaming palace and waited for Crystal as others made their way inside. The ElderWing's stomach rumbled as the smell of food wanted through the colors to her nose.
Durval, meanwhile, still stood on the earthern ramps overlooking the city. He turned to find that the small Dragoness and the Reptilian had disappeared, perhaps slipping off when he was telling them about the city. How rude of them. Oh well. The ever jolly ElderWing was about to start heading to the feast when a tail hit him in the face. He recognized the giggling that followed to be that of Ullie. He growled playfully and spread his wings to follow after her. "Get back here, lass! No one strikes Durval in the face and gets away with it!"

Re: The Secrets of DAelorios Island (Open to all)
Torghaith first looked at Nyetai in slight confusion... then Odaer... then Nyetai again... then back to Odaer and said
I get the distinct impression that hearing my name did not inspire the desired amount of awe, fear, and respect in this young one.
He then seemed to be deep in thought for a bit, then looked up again
Perhaps I require a simpler method to gain the loyalty of this particular hatchling...
He reached into one of his bags and retrieved a smaller bag from within. Nyetai could already smell something... tasty in the air. From that, he pulled out an exquisitely cooked and spiced rabbit, pretty much the fanciest dragon dessert one can accidentally come across, dangling it in front of her between two claws.

Nyetai watched as Torghaith pulled a piece of meat from his bag. She sniffed at it then made a face. "Yuck, I hate cooked meat! But thanks for offering." She jumped onto the EarthWing then climbed into one of the bags he had. Her tail swung back and forth as the fest of her body disappeared and she rumaged through the bag's contents. She knew she should have asked first, but she was much too impatient and curious to do so.

((Okay, at this point, i must ask: Do you intentionally wait until i go offline for a few minutes before posting replies? Almost every day, you post in the five minutes after i turn my computer off XD))
Oi! Whoever told you that you can go in there?! And what do you mean by "yuck"?! This is tasty! Kids these days!
Meanwhile, Nyetai finds various supplies, provisions, and things she does not even have an idea of. One such thing is a wooden disk with a stick sticking perpendicularly out of it in the middle, various colored circles sorrounding it. She also notices how the bags are not even nearly full, presumably to have space for loot.
Hey, librarian, what am I supposed to do with this one? he asked, rattling the bag around a bit for emphasis... And to inconvenience his new stowaway... but, as a grown-up adult, mostly for emphasis... mostly.

Nyetai continued looking through the bag. She found the disk and recognized it somewhat. But other things, she'd never seen. She huffed when Torg shook the bag she was in. "Hey! I'm still in here! and cooked meat is disgusting. Only Humans eat cooked meat." She poked her head out of the bag and looked at Torg before climbing out.

Odaer looked at Nyetai and laughed. Always getting into trouble, that one. He smiled at Torghaith. "I don't know. And it's hard to make one think you are some all-powerful ruler when you aren't. Ha-ha, you could try looking the part. And that's Scroll Keeper, there's a difference. Well, if we expect to get a good picking, we best get to the city before Durval eats everything." The Scroll Keeper continued on down the hall, with Henri right behind. Nyetai decided to wait behind for Jakarn.

((Hullo everyone hope you don't mind me joining in))
Lily scans the waters that surround her, her wing beats start to falter as exhaustion begins to set in. She notices a island ahead and she makes her way for it. As she lands on the soft white sand, she drags herself just beyond the reach of the waves as her steps become heavy. She falls upon the sand, her great chest filled with labored breath

(Lily, i dont know if your new or if you even have thought about making an app, but you should probably consider asking if you can dive into a topic without creating a character)
Crystal held back a laugh at Ullie and Durval. "Wait! Im gonna get lost without you Ullie!" Crystal had to flap her wings two times as fast in order to keep up with the two. While flying, she began to dig around in her satchel, looking for a potion. She was able to find it and drink it, (still while flying) and it gave her enough speed and energy to get ahead of Durval and Ullie. She was able to get in front of them, but when Ullie wasnt looking in front of her, She rammed into Crys, them hitting the ground and Crystal's satchel tumbling in front of another ElderWing.
(sorry i havent been posting as much, mom said i was spending to much time on my computer, so i took a 3 day break from it)

Torghaith flinged the meat into the air, then caught it in his mouth on its way down.
Apparently, i am a human now. I am rather overweight for one of those though. He said, swallowing it. Too bad, it was tasty.
He turned, and followed Odaer, asking Isn't a Scroll Keeper a type of librarian though? That would mean that you are a librarian and a scroll keeper to be more precise, so i was technically correct. That is the best kind of correct.
