Visting the Mainland (NightWIngs)

Having just left the IceWing Kingdom, the ElderWIngs now made their way south to the NightWIngs. Siris, Durval, and Mae watched as the land below them changed from frozen ground and snow-covered mountains, to humid swamps. Mae didn't want to walk through this place and risk getting her satchel, containing her scrolls, wet and filthy. So the three continued to fly until the NightWings' city came into view. There was solid, dry ground leading up to it, so they landed finally to walk the rest of the way. Mae quickly removed a blank scroll from her satchel and began writing what she saw. Siris and Durval conversed quietly, mostly about what they knew of the NightWIngs. When the trio came close enough to the gates to be seen, the stopped and waited.

Sherlock uncoiled from around the watchtower. Three dragons stood outside, impatiently muttering to themselves and looking around. A refined-looking dragon with a neat satchel was writing on a scroll. Sherlock frowned, and flicked a stone with her tail. The tiny sound caused all three dragons to stop talking. Sherlock jumped to the ground, casually sizing up the dragons. "Who are you, and what is your business?" Whispered Sherlock.

As Durval and Siris continued their conversation, a NightWing landed before them and their companion. Mae paid no attention to the newcomer, as she was far more interested in recording her surroundings in great detail. SIris and Durval--the latter especially--could speak enough for Mae without her chimming in. The ElderWIng leader and the GateKeeper studied the NightWIng for a moment as it did so to them. She seemed annoyed by their presence, about the same as the first IceWIng they had encountered. But hopefully she would be just as friendly. Durval and SIris exchanged a glance and silent words; SIris would speak first, as he always did.

"Good day to you, Child of Night. I am Ilos SIris and these are my companions, GateKeeper Durval, and Scribe Mae," he said with a gesture of the paw first to the other male, and then to the female beside them. "We come baring an offer and a gift for your leader."

Sherlock was still suspicious, but she indicated for them to follow her through the gates. She walked them along a hard-packed stone road towards a large dark opening in the side of a hill. Dark dragons stopped talking as the group passed, and slowly backed into shadows. When Sherlock reached the entrance to the cave, she gestured them inside.

Siris watched as the NightWIng simply turned around without a word and walked through the gates. Mae even looked up from her scroll to look at the NightWIng who disrespected the Ilos by not returning his greeting. The ElderWings exchanged a glance before following through the gate. They looked around as they were led along a path toward a dark cave carved in a hillside. They saw the other NightWIngs who stared as they passed by. Many backed away into the shadows, unaware that the ElderWIngs shared their vision, thus able to still see them. Upon reaching the cave, the nameless NightWIng gestured them inside, apparently wanting them to go in alone. She didn't seem concerned with how dark the cave was--it was a good thing the ElderWings wouldn't need a guide. SIris, Durval, and Mae walked into the cave, following it wherever it led.

Sherlock watched as they entered, then relaxed. She stood outside, opening and closing her mouth. She whispered, "Sherlock. My name is Sherlock." Her voice never rose above a whisper, it broke and tumbled like a rock being washed down a river. She shook her head. Ever since that stupid dragon had strangled her... she hadn't had a voice for months. She slid into the cave, flexing her wings under the high ceiling. The group of dragons were standing in the middle, looking around. "This... way" whispered Sherlock. She took them off down the side chamber, into a room lit with the greasy light of torches.

As the trio moved toward the bak of the cave, the NightWIng whispered her name. "It's a pleasure to be knowing your name at last, lass." Durval said as he turned his head to look at Sherlock, who moved off toward a side chamber. SIris and the others followed, and eventually they saw torches lighting a small room, their light dancing on the walls. All the while, Mae was still writing on her scroll; every detail was important. The ElderWings stopped and looked around the small, torch-lit room. "Where to now?" Mae asked as she paused in her writing.

Sherlock returned from the side chamber with a light, saw the three dragons still standing there, and smiled. "Just...wait." She whispered. She walked into a smaller hall way, and reared up on her hind legs. She took her claws and rapped them against the stone door. A rumbling came from within, and the stone was pushed open. A huge, dark dragon stuck its head out, clearly upset at having been disturbed. Sherlock bowed her head before it. "Elderwings... here to see... you, Grandfather." Sherlock found pain in her throat, as she struggled to force each word out. The dark dragon frowned, obviously confused at her struggle to speak. "They are in the meeting room," she continued. The great dragon smiled. Elderwings. He hadn't seen any of them in a long time. "I will see to them. Go before me and announce my arrival." Sherlock nodded, and walked back towards the sound of voices.

((Wolfdancer wouldn't know they are ElderWings, since they haven't mentioned it yet and she's never seen one before, unless she is or knows a Scholar who's read about them and knows what they look like))

Sherlock asked the trio to wait then disappeared down a hall. Mae stopped her writing for the moment, as there was nothing in the room they stood in worth mentioning. Durval's stomach growled loud enough to rival the roar of a saber-cat. Siris, meanwhile, sifted through the centuries of knowledge in his brain for a spell that would help their whispering friend.

Sherlock entered the room, smiled at Mae, and tapped a claw on the floor. "My...leader will be here... soon." She whispered. There was the sound of scales on stone in the hallway behind her. A larger black head appeared from the hall, eyes narrowed in observation as the Leader of the Nightwings looked at the trio of new dragons.
((sorry I was writing this really early in the morning so there might be errors.))
