Top 3 rules of DRF

1. Keep it PG
This site is intended as a fun children friendly environment. This means no swearing or any adult content such as sexual content or gore.

2. Respect
Respect for the individual member, respect for the site, and respect for the staff. You don't have to agree with everyone or everything on this site but keep it to yourself or message a member of staff. Topics and posts found violating this rule will be deleted. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. This rule does not apply to in-character rp topics. This extends to respecting that staff have final say. A rule can't be written for everything.

3. Maintain a friendly environment
Everyone has their issues and it is unfortunate that many use rp forums as a place to lay out their issues upon everyone. Topics like gang violence, suicide, and depression are not things that make a friendly environment. This rule applies to the chatbox as well but not in-character rp topics. This is a dragon rp site not a support group.

The not top (but still important) 3 rules  

1. Meta-Gaming
Meta-Playing is giving your character knowledge that they did not obtain themselves, such as knowing the outcome of a secret meeting between tribe members without being a participant. As such, this is not permitted. All your characters’ actions, including what they say, do or think must be justifiable in-character. Out of character discussions can NEVER be used as in-character justification, and will lead to these actions becoming null and void.

2. God-Modding
God-modding is manipulation/possession of another user’s characters, both directly and indirectly. Without explicit permission from the owner of such characters, god-modding is not permitted and will result in the last post becoming void. An example of god-modding is manipulating another character’s reaction, what they say, or what they do. If you would like to perform a specific action to achieve an end (e.g. break someone’s nose), then you are better off saying something like “Bob strikes, attempting to break A’s nose”.

3. Retcon
Retcon is attempting to change a part of a character’s history or an event that has already happened. Because we are a lore-based RP site, we do NOT allow anyone to retcon their character’s past and restart them like they are a new character. What happens to your character, as well as the events that transpired with them, is permanent and will not be removed or modified. Although some of you preferred to have characters with perfect lifestyles and having absolutely nothing bad coming into their lives, these mistakes or unfortunate circumstances, believe it or not, are part of your character’s growth and stays with you, since they will shape what your characters become. At the very least, they will become much more fun to RP than a Mary Sue/Gary Stu.

Note, however, that retcon does not encompass character histories that are made prior to them starting their adventure in Pyyria. If there is a part of your character’s history in their application that you want to change, you may do so by asking a staff member.

Everything else

4. Advertising
We have a specific thread for advertising in the Advertising Section. Advertising anywhere else on this site is disallowed and will result in disciplinary actions as soon as it comes to their attention. This includes but not limited to advertising through your avatar profile picture, your rank or through your signature. In addition the advertising of competition sites defined as fellow dragon rp sites is forbidden.

5. Moderating
Unless you are pointing members to the rules, you are not allowed to moderate others. Moderating is reserved for staff members only.

6. Flood and Spam
Flood must be avoided. Unless you are bumping an old topic, one-word posts like "lol", "rofl" or a single smiley must be avoided. Every post in a role-play topic must have a decent amount of content in them so that others will have something to go on when they make their next post. Avoid double posting and use the edit function if you missed some stuff. Double posting is permitted in solo rp.

7. Chatbox RPs
All RPs done inside the chatbox is considered out of character, meaning nothing that happens there is official. If you are involved in a chat RP that you suddenly gain interest in and want to be part of your character, you need to do this through forum RPing only.

Character Creation
Before we get into how to make a character here on DRF let's talk about what makes a good character, what defines a character. It isn't their name. It isn't the tribe or species they happen to belong to. And it sure as heck isn't the skills and abilities they have (which is the most common and most boring way people define and center their character around.) Let's look at the definition of character which is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Their personality, their morals, what motivates them, what brings them down. These are the fundamentals of what make a good character and these are things you should develop before you even figure out their name.

Some things to consider before making your character.

A half eagle and half wolf is a creature that can't fly and can't run. We aren't as picky as real world logic but we do have some limitations. If you were to create a character who is a half breed between tribe species then the abilities of both species would be halved and instead of having their respective immunities they would instead only have resistance. You also can not combine abilities to create new abilities such as Fire and Earth to create Lava with special exceptions such as Semi Gods

Your character may only start with 1 ability. Additional abilities can be obtained by submitting a form in the ability creation section and must be approved by staff.

A 10 year old character is not going to have mastered magic. No character is a master of all trades and rather more often than not, a master of one or an adept at a few. Use logic and be sensible.

Getting your character approved
Once posted staff will review your app and may ask you to make changes in accordance with our lore and balance of strength. Your app will need 1 approval from a Mod, Character Mod, or Admin in order to be accepted and ready for RP. Once accepted the app will be moved to its corresponding storage place and will be locked from editing. To provide edits ask a member of staff to take it out. After the edits are made it will need one mod approval; you can make it easier by color coding what was edited.
